Funding eligibility

Who can apply?

First-time applicants must establish that their organization is eligible before requesting Pettis County lodgings tax funds.

Proof of eligibility

First-time applicants must provide documentation for each requirement below.

1. Eligible nonprofit or government status

To qualify for lodgings tax funding, an organization must be one of the following:

  • A nonprofit organization established in Pettis County and in good standing with the State of Missouri;
  • A subdivision or department of Pettis County government;
  • A city government within Pettis County; or
  • A department of Missouri state government.

Applicants must also meet all other requirements. Submit a Certificate of Incorporation from the Secretary of State; the Commission will keep it on file.

2. A primary purpose that promotes tourism

Applicants must show that their organization:

  • Primarily promotes Sedalia as a visitor destination as a destination marketing organization (DMO);
  • Operates a year-round visitor destination in Pettis County; or
  • Sponsors a multi-day event that can draw overnight stays to the Sedalia area.

This purpose must be reflected in the organization’s mission statement, bylaws, or similar governing documents.

3. At least two years of incorporation

Organizations must have been incorporated for at least two years and provide annual reports or financial statements for the two previous years.

Once eligibility is established, the Tourism Commission invites the organization to submit funding proposals through the Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Commission may request additional or updated information at any time while reviewing a funding request.
